It has been quite a trip, but Bette Noir is calling it quits… for now.

The good news is we’re all doing well, and there are two new little rockers in the world, healthy and happy! The not-as-good news is that, as we in Bette Noir do this for love, not fame and fortune, sometimes the effort we put into the music is at odds with the effort we need to put into other areas of our lives (like raising families and paying the bills). So it is with heavy hearts that we announce our indefinite hiatus from performing as Bette Noir.

You may still see some of us out there on stage in other groups, and we’ll still be writing songs, but it just didn’t feel right to keep going forward as a band when we didn’t have the collective energy on a consistent basis.

We thank every single one of you who ever gave us a kind word, cast a vote in our favor, and of course, came to our shows — even if just for one song. We have met so many wonderful people over the years that every broken string, every aching muscle from hauling gear, every blister, and every late night before heading to our day jobs in the morning was worth it. We never would have found the joy we experienced without you, the audience, and we are forever grateful for that opportunity.

As we’d like to think of this more as a “see you later” than a “goodbye,”, we’ll keep this site, as well as our Facebook page and Twitter account open. If you ever desire to get in touch with us, even if just to say hi, you can still find us here on the internet.

We don’t know how long this hiatus will last, but we sincerely hope we’ll be back soon.

Peace & Love,
Bette Noir

Things have been quiet in Bette-land lately in anticipation of a new arrival in the next generation of rockers, but we’re breaking the temporary silence to announce that we have been chosen as one of the 40 quarter-finalists to play the HFStival!
Those of you who have been in the area a while remember WHFS as the alternative eclectic station. Now the HFStival is back. For those of you who don’t know, the HFStival is an annual DC/Baltimore-area modern rock music festival that takes place on multiple stages and features over 20 regional and national acts. Bette Noir now has the opportunity to perform on September 17th at Merriweather Post Pavilion… but only if you vote for us!

Please visit the website, where you can listen to our track, Sunburn. You can vote by clicking “Cast Your Vote Here,” click the bubble next to Bette Noir, and then click on the “Vote” button at the bottom of the list.

Voting is limited to one vote per IP address, so spread the word, and vote from home & work — but hurry, because voting ends Friday, July 8!
Thank you!

Hello friends & fans! Long time no see, we know, but fear not! We’ve been busy behind the scenes finalizing the new tracks (check out the Media page for the MP3s) and looking into new shows. Thanks to all who came out to Austin Grill in March — we had a great time and hope you did, too. Our fingers are crossed that they will decide to support local musicians and keep showcasing great bands on weekends in Rockville. We don’t have any planned public appearences coming up, but as always, stay tuned for news. In the meantime, enjoy the new tracks (including a song we don’t play live very often) and try to stay cool this summer!

We’re pleased to announce we will be at Austin Grill Rockville at 9:30pm this Saturday, March 12!
Sadly, they are considering limiting their live music at this fun venue, and we want to show them that there is community support — so please come out and help us! Every show we’ve played at Austin Grill Rockville has been a rockin’ good time, and Saturday should be no exception. Check out the shows page for details.

The Fast Eddie’s show has been CANCELED. The owner of Fast Eddie’s double-booked the Centreville location and we were the losing party. We’re very sorry and hope to have another show lined up soon!

Thank you to everyone who came out to Parker’s in December! It was a fun way to ring out the old year in a new venue. Even though 50% of the band fell ill before the show, we were happy to be able to bring you the rock for a very relaxed evening.
We’re starting off the new year with a show for you NoVA suburbanites. Saturday, February 26, we’ll be out at Fast Eddie’s in Centreville! This is our first time there, and, as usual, the audience response will determine whether we are invited back… so please bring yourself and your friends out for a fun night of awesome pop-rock originals and those covers that you thought you forgot! As always, details are on the shows page.

Wow, is it already December? We’ve been busy in the studio, but found time to book one last 2010 show in Bethesda. Don’t forget to vote for us in the Converse “Get Out of the Garage” contest! Voting is once per day per email address, and goes through December 15. We’d love to place in the top 100 and get some attention for the awesome DC-metro area ROCK scene. There are a lot of great bands here and not enough venues, which means a lot of talent leaves town, or worse, great musicians stop playing music because they have to keep their “day jobs.” Let’s stop that trend!

11.24.10

Happy (American) Thanksgiving! We’ve got just a couple quick announcements before we’re off to stuff ourselves — first, we have a show scheduled for Dec. 18 in Bethesda. Details will be coming soon, but mark your calendar — it’s a Saturday night show! Second, we’re competing in the Converse “Get Out of the Garage” contest. Please vote for us! You can vote once per day per email address. If we win this contest, we not only get to record all fancy-like and get some awesome gear, we get the DC Metro area notice! There are so many great bands here, but our neck of the woods hasn’t been recognized for music for quite a while. We can change that! Please, please, please go here and vote for us!

11.09.10

Most of the work is done… we will be in the Pajama Room with Bret Batterman for a final mix-down session the week of Thanksgiving. Then we master. Then, dear friends, you shall hear it. In the meantime, we’re looking into posting some LIVE video from the last Austin Grill show! There’s editing to be done to see if they are of sufficient quality to post, but so far the outlook is good. All this time in the studio is making us a dull band, but we promise, we’ll be back in your faces soon!
